Khimki is one of the largest satellite towns of Moscow located on the bank of Moscow Canal. The town borders on the capital in the northwest.

The town has been named after Himka River. The status of the city was given to it in 1939.

The industry is well developed in Khimki. There is a world’s leading enterprise engaged in development of powerful liquid rocket engines for carrier rockets in the territory of the town. JSC NPO Energomash named after academician V. Glushko. Since 1929 the enterprise has developed about 60 engines.

Fakel, the design machine-building office engaging in development of air defense missile systems is also located in Khimki. For about forty years academician Peter D. Grushin has been the permanent head of plant, one of the streets of the town has been named after him. Besides, Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Research and production association named after Semen A. Lavochkin” is situated in Khimki. This is one of leading enterprises in the country in the field of development and practical use of unmanned vehicles for space research.

One of the main sights of Khimki is the temple of the Holy Trinity constructed in Old Russian style in 1910. In 1936, the temple was closed. The building was used as a warehouse, then as movie theater, and in the 1980’s a sculpture workshop was placed here. In 1990, the temple was given back to the faithful. In 1993, the Divine Liturgy, and in 1996 the Dedication service was made by metropolitan Juvenal in the temple.

A monument to those "Who defended fatherland", one more sight of Khimki, has been unveiled on the bed of honour of the Soviet soldiers. Authors of the monument are sculptors V. Nikitin and N. Samsonov. There is a burial of two pilots, soldier Sergey and officer Vladimir whose surnames have remained unknown under a monument.

One more important sight of Khimki is in park named after Velichko. This is a T-34 Tank unveiled in 2007. This tank is also known as monument to soldiers who defended Skhodna situated near Moscow.

There are also some parks in Khimki which may be not less interesting for tourists. This is, for example, Dubki and park named after Leo Tolstoy.
